Cover Girls

February 2013

It may be the designers who initiate trends and new looks, but it's really up to magazine editors as to what they deem is fashionable and captivating enough to place on a cover. This month, Spring is in the air with a host of vibrant covers from around the magazine world. I have also never seen this many Gucci Cover looks in a single month. Is this a sign of the Spring themes to come? These are the issues that I found most eye-catching this February.

Daria Fomina brought pink romance to the cover of L'Officiel Thailand. She wears a cerise pink and orange floral swirl of a dress with oversized ruffled sleeves by Gucci. Wavy locks and a hazy floral background give this cover a dreamy effect.

Russian beauty Anne Vyalitsyna is fresh faced and pretty on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Russia. Anne wears a pale pink Prada dress, which is embellished with red and black floral motifs. I like the sweet rosy pink and red theme of this cover.

Amdist all the brightly styled covers, we have the crisp appeal of Scarlett Johansson in a minimalistic utility look by Victoria Beckham. Scarlett sports an all-white collared dress with mesh inserts and peep toe ankle boots for the February cover of Elle UK.

Stunning Brazilian supermodel Izabel Goulart makes a striking appearance on the cover of Vogue Brazil. Her plunge-neck sunset orange gown with metallic fringing is by Versace. Styled by Anna Dello Russo, Izabel brings a fiery level of flair to the look.

Queen of magazine covers, Karlie Kloss brings her magnetic charm to Vogue EspaƱa. She is radiant in a cherry red tunic top with key-hole cut-out by Gucci. All interest is placed on the elaborate bejewelled neckpiece. The details of how intricate the beading actually is was lost on the runway. I am excited to see it in this close-up shot.

Natalia Uliasz makes a salute to Spring in this enchanting cover for Elle Greece. The Polish model dons a heavily ornamented ethnic look by Dolce & Gabbana, which features a myriad of playful shades. She wears the same printed shoes as seen on the runway. The bird-and-butterly artwork add and an element of fun to this cover.

In a second February cover for Vogue Brazil styled by Anna Dello Russo, Dutch model Bette Franke wears an origami folded outfit in white by Prada. The simplicity of shades and complexity of shapes is what makes this cover engaging.

This emerald green Gucci dress makes a splash on not one, but two covers this February. First we have Naomi Watts grace the cover of her native Australian version of Vogue, set against a beautiful floral background. Top Right, Jessica Alba is pictured for one of her cover shots for this month's edition of InStyle USA. I much prefer this ruffled cover dress on Naomi.

Steering clear of the floral and white trend zone, Elle Netherlands places Josefien Rodermans on their February cover in a tartan print dress with sheer contrast coloured sleeves. This eclectic ensemble is from Dries van Noten's Spring 2013 range.

Gucci has got game. A brightly shaded look from their Spring 2013 collection makes yet another cover appearance this month, this time on Vogue Portugal. Lithuanian model Aida Aniulyte stands out in a purple, green and blue floral print pants suit, styled with a neon Lacoste plastic bag and Dolce & Gabbana wedges.

Frida Gustavsson mirrors the decorative floral backdrop for the 25th anniversary issue of Elle Sweden. The Swedish supermodel is dressed in an exquisite abstract print chiffon gown by Elie Saab. Her look is styled with a rusted red leather jacket by Acne.

Which of these February 2013 issues would you be most likely to pick up?
